My Style & Shopping Ethos
In 2010, my views on shopping and buying clothes changed forever on an unsuspecting trip to Southeast Asia. My carefully curated luggage was lost for most of the trip, stuck somewhere between Washington DC and Indonesia. As a result, I had to shop local markets and buy clothing from local artisans. It was a lightbulb moment. For the first time, I began to think about the people who were making the clothes I wear. I had amassed a closet of fast fashion - it was trendy, and it was cheap. I came home from Indonesia and decided not to buy any new clothes for a year. That year-long experience opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about style and shopping.
Since then, I've been on a journey to be more thoughtful about what I buy and to spread awareness about the impact of fast fashion both for the environment and the people who make the clothes. This journey is not perfect (and it won't be), but if you want to be more intentional about what you buy, then let's talk!
